Community Servings provided 355,190 meals to 1,256 clients in fiscal year 2011 (July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011). Of 1,256 people served, 870 (69%) were clients with life-threatening illnesses, and 386 (31%) were dependents or caregivers of clients. Children age 18 or younger represented 11% of all clients served.
Community Servings serves 17 cities and towns across 215 square miles in Massachusetts. Fifty-four percent of our clients live in Boston, 8% in Greater Boston, 11% on the South Shore, 21% on the North Shore and 2% in the Lawrence area. Forty-seven percent of our clients are female, 53% are male, and <1% are transgender. Eighty-seven percent of clients are living at or below the federal poverty income level.
Sixty percent of our clients are from racial/ethnic minorities. Forty percent of our clients are White, 35% are African American, and 12% are Latino. The remainder of our client base is primarily African, Asian/Asian-American, Haitian, and Cape Verdean.
