Computer Teacher (Volunteer Position)

Eastern Massachusetts’ free, home-delivered meals and nutrition program for the critically ill seeks a ServSafe Tutor for its Teaching Kitchen job-training program. Note: This is a volunteer position.

The Teaching Kitchen program is a 12-week job-training program for people interested in careers in the food service industry who face barriers to full-time employment. As they learn food preparation and cooking techniques, trainees also help our culinary team prepare the meals we deliver to our clients each day. In addition, trainees receive job placement support which includes resume writing, interview, and computer skills. The program is seeking a volunteer who could commit to teaching weekly intro to computer classes using an existing curriculum.

The curriculum is largely hands-on with each student using a laptop for self-guided learning, with support and coaching from the computer instructor. Topics include setting up and using an email account, creating and saving Word documents, using the internet to search and apply for jobs, and the use of a flash drive to save documents.

Responsibilities:

  • 2 hours per week for an 8-10 week computer class, exact timing is TBD

Qualifications:

  • Background in teaching, coaching, or group facilitation is preferred.
