| Volunteers Needed for New Farmer's Market Starting Sunday, July 12th |
On Sundays from July through October, local food vendors and farmers will sell their products at Community Servings. Herbs and arugula grown in our on-site herb garden are also for sale -- the proceeds from which help feed our clients.
With the only other market on the other side of Jamaica Plain, Community Servings is delighted to offer residents of Stony Brook and Egleston Square nearby access to top-quality, local produce and to accept WIC benefits. We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to assist in setting up and staffing the Community Servings table at the farmer's market. Also, restroom facilities will be made available for market shoppers, so volunteers may be asked to staff the entrance of the Community Servings' building. Volunteers should be able to lift items that weigh as much as 10 pounds (such as folding tables, chairs and literature). An upbeat and gregarious personality, patience and a love of food are musts. Because of our location and outreach work, Spanish-speaking is a plus. The market launch will be on Sunday, July 12th and will continue until Sunday, October 18th. While market hours will be from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, the volunteer shifts will be from 9:00 am to Noon and/or Noon to 3:00 pm to help set up and break down the market. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Rebecca Ober, Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator, at 617-522-7777 x228 or rober@servings.org. If you'd like more information on the Farmer's Market, please contact Edith Murnane, Social Enterprise Manager, at 617-522-7777 x207 or emurnane@servings.org.
