Meeting an Urgent Need

Medically tailored meals improve our clients' health & have proven to reduce healthcare costs by 16%

The demand for our meals continues to grow and our current facilities do not provide us with the capacity to meet that demand.

  • At any given time, there are up to 100-150 individuals and families on our waitlist.
  • The average wait before a space becomes available for a new client is 3-6 months – far too long for someone who is critically ill.
  • Nearly 400,000 individuals in Massachusetts face food insecurity – an increase of 71% over the past decade.
  • The need exists in the communities we serve, and in communities beyond our geographic reach.

The Nutrition Challenge

Nutrition and diet are recognized as the cornerstones to improved health.

Poor nutrition results in higher healthcare costs, including increased visits to emergency rooms and longer hospital stays. Nationally, 1 in 3 admitted patients are malnourished, resulting in 3x longer stays and 3x higher costs.

Community Servings, in partnership with healthcare providers, has conducted research demonstrating the impact of medically tailored meals on health outcomes and costs. Research shows that Community Servings’ medically tailored meals model is a low-cost, high-value healthcare intervention, reducing healthcare costs by 16%.

Boston’s Restaurant Community on the Need for Community Servings

We’re privileged to have the generous support of Greater Boston’s restaurant community. Whether they’re baking Thanksgiving pies for Pie in the Sky, donating multi-course dinners for LifeSavor, or hosting their own fundraising events – our chef and restaurant partners embrace our mission to care for our most vulnerable neighbors.
