Volunteering During COVID-19

The state of Massachusetts has deemed Community Servings an essential business.  Our kitchen is open.

As part of our response to the coronavirus pandemic, we have temporarily modified our volunteer calendar.

Beginning Monday, March 30, the only shifts we will have available are Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. We are in need of 10-12 individual volunteers to join a few members of our culinary team in the kitchen during those time frames. We have determined that this level of staffing will allow us maintain production of our medically tailored meals, while keeping everyone safely spaced six-feet apart.

Volunteers can expect to help with tasks like peeling and chopping vegetables, portioning and packaging food, and packing meal bags for delivery to our clients.

Please note that all volunteers must take their body temperature at home before heading to Community Servings. According to the CDC, a recorded body temperature of 100.4°F or above means you have a fever. For official temperature taking guidelines, please click here.

 

HEALTH & SAFETY

Please remember that in order to enter our building or volunteer during the pandemic, you cannot have:

  • Traveled outside the U.S. within the last two weeks
  • Been in contact with someone in the last two weeks who has or may have contracted COVID-19
  • Experienced cold or flu-like symptoms in the last 72-hours
  • Experienced a cough, chest congestion, or shortness of breath due to illness in the last 72-hours
  • Experienced a fever in the last 72-hours

We are asking all volunteers to try to avoid using public transportation or ride-sharing services to travel to Community Servings, as the CDC recommends avoiding them as part of proper social distancing. We have plenty of parking spaces available in the lots adjacent to our building, which you are welcome to use.

Volunteer in the Kitchen

Help us peel, chop, and package meals for our clients.

  • Volunteers must be 13+.
  • If you’ve never volunteered in our kitchen before, you will be given an orientation prior to the start of your shift.
