Special Events Intern

Collaborating with seasoned professionals, board members, and volunteers, the Special Events Intern will gain insight into the inner workings of a highly successful Development and Communications team as it plans for a grand opening of our new Food Campus with a series of events and our 28th Annual Pie in the Sky fundraiser. This internship will provide a well-rounded introduction to nonprofit event planning.

From idea generating to making phone calls to restaurants for donations, this opportunity requires a team player willing to do whatever it takes to make our events successful. The intern will assist with a host of other activities and responsibilities insofar as these provide possibilities for learning and personal growth and further the mission of the team. This position is an ideal opportunity for an individual wanting to gain solid professional skills while jump-starting a career in events planning and fundraising.

This internship is for fall 2019 and is unpaid.

 

Learning Opportunities:

  • Venue research and scheduling
  • Setting up for events
  • Maintaining world-class customer service during events
  • Planning and staffing donor cultivation events, frequently “house parties” but also other events
  • Assisting Community Servings’ Young Professionals group in planning and implementing summer and fall events
  • Managing inventory of special events materials and props
  • Collaborating with members of the Development and Communications team in the achievement of overall Development Department goals
  • Creating and maintaining database donor records in SalesForce
  • Assisting at special events
  • Assisting with special event invitations, solicitations, and fulfillment mailings
  • Writing brief or extended summary reports of work status

 

Qualifications:

  • Up to one years’ related work experience required.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to display creativity, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate initiative.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to visitors, staff and external constituents in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

 

Physical Requirements:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move throughout the Community Servings Food Campus.
