Shelly Greer, diagnosed with diabetes in late 2017 at the age of 38, was struggling to manage the disease when a physician referred her to a new program at Ascension Wisconsin. Her HbA1c, a blood sugar measurement critical for diabetics, was at 10; below 8 is the threshold for diabetes under control.
