Group Volunteering

Strengthening bonds and the community.

Making a Difference

Many hands are needed to help us make the more than one million meals we serve each year to our clients living with chronic and critical illnesses, so we are happy to welcome volunteer groups at both our Boston (Jamaica Plain) and Mansfield facilities.

Our facilities and activities are designed with every kind of volunteer in mind, whether groups or individuals, experienced or brand new to our mission. That makes us a great fit for a team-building day or a corporate service outing.

Volunteers from Chiesi’s Boston office in our Liberty Mutual Packaging Kitchen helping our team fill medically tailored meal containers.

Volunteers from our partner Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts building meal bags for our clients in the Volunteer Packaging Kitchen.

Members of Alnylam’s team recently stopped by to volunteer and help feed our critically and chronically ill clients. Here, they’re precisely portioning out protein so every clients gets exact nutrition they need to stay healthy.

Volunteers from Rockland, MA-based Alletess chopping fresh kale in our Production Kitchen that our cooks used for delicious and nutritious Kale Soup!

Thanks to the help of corporate teams like Boathouse Group, we were able to keep up with the demand for our medically tailored meals last winter!

The team from Moderna recently stopped by to lend a helping hand in our kitchens portioning, packaging and labeling scratch-made medically tailored meals for our clients.

Thank you to our friends at Sanofi for helping our Packaging Kitchen team build the homemade "soup stacks" our critically and chronically ill clients receive in their weekly meal delivery!

What Your Group Will Do

Groups work alongside our staff and individual volunteers on our production lines. You will help peel and chop vegetables, portion soups, stews, and salads, and package meal bags for delivery. Every task supports the delivery of medically tailored meals to neighbors across Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Group Sizes and Locations

In our Boston commercial kitchen, we can welcome groups of up to 20 volunteers in the morning and afternoon, or up to 10 in the evening. In Mansfield, Massachusetts, we can host groups of four to six in our packaging warehouse during morning and afternoon shifts.

What We Provide

Group members just need to arrive dressed in line with our dress code. Everything else is provided. That includes lockers to store your belongings, a 15-minute video orientation and Q&A with our Volunteer Services staff, and the disposable sanitation gear needed to work in our production areas.

Corporate Donations

Community Servings invoices a $75 donation per volunteer for corporate volunteer groups in Boston (Jamaica Plain). That amount is equivalent to two weeks of meals for a client. The donation deepens the impact of group volunteering by offsetting some of the costs of staff and infrastructure required to host large volunteer groups.

This donation does not apply to community volunteer groups or to certain corporate groups with which we have other forms of partnership. It is currently optional for small corporate groups joining at our Mansfield facility.

If you would like to learn more about sponsorship arrangements for LifeSavor and Pie in the Sky that could exempt your organization from the donation, please email our Manager of Volunteer Services, T’sera Mirescu, at and ask to be connected with a member of our Development team.
