NUTRITION CARE

Community Servings believes that food and nutrition impact the overall health and well-being of an individual.  This is even more important when an individual is battling a critical illness.

Our meals are designed specifically for our clients and their families.  We strive to provide menus that are:

  • Culturally appropriate
  • Evocative of memories and feelings of comfort
  • Nutritious
  • Designed to provide approximately 50-67% of daily needs
  • Provide adequate calories and protein to support health during critical illness
  • Cooked using healthy fats and minimal added salt

In addition to meals, Community Servings' registered dietitian offers our clients a range of nutrition care services.  This begins with a nutrition screening and assessment of our clients when they begin to receive meals.  They complete a nutrition questionnaire that is used to identify possible nutritional risk factors or any concerns our clients may have, such as:

  • Significant weight loss or gain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Chewing or swallowing difficulties
  • Chronic nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation

If needed, our registered dietitian will develop an individualized care plan with the client either over the phone or in person. Nutrition care plans may include goals and objectives such as:

  • Nutritional management of side effects from medication or treatment
  • Weight management
  • Nutritional guidance for medical conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease, high cholesterol, lactose intolerance, etc.
  • Ways to increase calories and protein when appetite is poor
  • Identifying special diet needs, such as no-dairy, low-fat, or low fiber.

Our dietitian will provide counseling, reassessment, and follow-up depending on each client's  needs.
